Pay straight from your bank. Skip the card fees.

Puffin moves money from a shopper’s bank to a merchant’s bank in seconds over America’s instant payment networks. Shoppers approve in their own bank app. Merchants pay about 1% instead of 3%.

No card numbers. No chargeback fraud. Money that actually arrives.

  • ~1%per payment for merchants
  • Secondsfor money to land, 24/7/365

How it works

Three taps. No card.

Puffin sends a payment request to the shopper’s bank. The shopper approves it where they already bank. The money moves bank to bank, instantly.

1

Choose “Pay with Puffin”

At an online checkout, from a pay link, or by scanning a QR code at the counter or table.

2

Approve in your bank app

Your own bank shows the amount and the merchant. Confirm with Face ID, fingerprint, or PIN.

3

Done — it’s paid

Funds land in the merchant’s bank account in seconds. The payment is final, like handing over cash.

For merchants

Keep more of every sale.

Card processing quietly takes 2.5–3% of your revenue, then holds your money for days. Puffin is a simpler deal.

  • About 1% per payment — 25¢ minimum, capped at $10.
  • Fast payouts — automatic daily, or instant whenever you want.
  • No card chargeback fraud — every payment is approved by the account holder in their bank.
  • Refunds on your terms — issue them from your dashboard.

Fees on a $50 sale

Typical card payment ~$1.45
Puffin $0.50
You keep $0.95 more — about 65% less in fees.

Card example uses a 2.9% rate, before any per-transaction fees. Actual card costs vary by processor and card type.

For shoppers

Pay from your bank. Get a little back.

Puffin is built for people who’d rather not type a card number into one more website.

A little back

Because merchants save on fees, participating merchants can pass some along — for example, up to 0.5% off when you pay with Puffin.

No card numbers

Nothing to type, nothing to leak. Merchants never receive a card number from you, because there isn’t one.

Online and in person

Use the checkout button online, tap a pay link from a text or invoice, or scan a QR code at the counter or table.

Security

Your bank stays in charge.

Every Puffin payment is approved inside your own bank’s app, using the protections your bank already has.

Approve in your bank app

You confirm each payment with Face ID, fingerprint, or PIN — the same way you sign in to your bank today.

We never see your password

Puffin never asks for or stores your bank username or password. Nothing moves until you say yes in your bank’s app.

Built on US instant rails

Puffin is designed to run on the Federal Reserve’s FedNow® Service and The Clearing House’s RTP® network, which move money between US banks in seconds, any time of day.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Puffin live?

Not yet. Puffin is pre-launch. We’re preparing a pilot with a small group of merchants. If you’d like to be one of them, email us. Shoppers can request early access.

How is this different from paying by card?

A card payment runs through card networks, costs merchants roughly 2.5–3%, and can be reversed weeks later through a chargeback. A Puffin payment goes directly from your bank account to the merchant’s over instant payment networks, costs merchants about 1%, and settles in seconds.

Does my bank work with Puffin?

Puffin works with banks that support instant payment requests on FedNow or RTP. That list is growing, but not every bank supports it yet. During the pilot we’ll confirm whether your bank is covered before you sign up.

Can I get a refund?

Yes — refunds come from the merchant, just like returning something you paid for in cash. Merchants issue refunds from their Puffin dashboard, and the money goes back to your bank account.

Are instant payments really final?

Yes. Once you approve a payment and it settles, it can’t be pulled back. That’s why you approve every payment yourself, in your own bank app, after seeing the amount and who it’s going to.

What does it cost?

Shoppers pay nothing extra. Merchants pay about 1% per payment, with a 25¢ minimum and a $10 cap. See merchant pricing.

Who’s behind Puffin?
